Healthy aging with adjusted screening schedules and focus on quality of life. Some screenings end while others gain importance.

Key Screening Changes at 65

Cervical screening typically ends if you have adequate prior negative results
Bone density screening recommended for all women at 65

Screening Recommendations

Cervical Cancer Screening

Can stop at 65

You can stop cervical cancer screening at 65 if:

  • You have adequate prior negative screening results
  • No history of CIN2 or higher in the past 25 years
  • No history of cervical cancer

Continue screening if: You haven't been adequately screened, have a new sexual partner, or have other risk factors. Talk to your doctor.

Mammography

When:Continue as long as in good health with life expectancy of 10+ years
Note:Decision to stop should be individualized based on health status and preferences

Colorectal Cancer Screening

Until age 75
Ages 65-75:Continue routine screening
Ages 76-85:Individual decision based on health, prior results, preferences
Age 85+:Screening generally not recommended

Bone Density Testing

All women at 65
What:DEXA scan of hip and spine
When:Baseline at 65; repeat interval based on results and risk
Why:Identifies osteoporosis before fractures occur; guides treatment decisions

Falls are the leading cause of injury in older adults. Prevention is key to maintaining independence and quality of life.
